Toyota and Hyundai, both these names are well reputed in our country. They both have quite a handful of good cars running on the Indian roads. Etios Cross is a recent car from Toyota, while Grand i10 is an upgraded model of the much popular Hyundai i10. Both were released last year and are now commonly seen on the roads. Here is an attempt to compare these two cars though they belong to different body types. One is a compact crossover while the other is a normal hatchback.
The Hyundai Grand i10 is a premium looking hatchback and the fluidic design is clearly evident on it. It is a graceful car ideal for urban usage. Etios Cross on the other hand is incorporated with flashy designs and many typical SUV features. The overall craggy look of the Etios Cross is sure to attract the adventurous and young generation car buyers over the hatch. Also Grand i10 comes with 16 inches tubeless tyres as standard, while Etios Cross comes with 18 inches tubeless tyres which help in more comfortable ride quality.
If one compares the dimensions, it is evident that the Etios Cross is longer and bigger than Grand i10. However the boot space is more in the Hyundai car by a few litres. The extra length is intelligently used to provide more leg space in the crossover. Both the 5 seater cars get black and beige luxuriously finished cabin. Toyota has provided a fully automatic air conditioner to the Etios Cross whereas Hyundai Grand i10 get a manual air conditioner only. Also Etios Cross has an advanced music player with all connectivity and speakers besides steering wheel mounted controls. Grand i10 misses out on this comfort. Grand i10 has also missed out on some of the important safety aspects like air bags and Anti-Lock Braking System which are seen in its opponent.
Toyota Etios Cross is available with three engine options – a 1.2-litre and 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 79 bhp and 89 bhp of power respectively and a 1.4-litre diesel unit giving out 67 bhp of power. Both petrol and diesel engine are mated to a five speed manual transmission gear box.
Grand i10 is offered in both petrol and diesel option with manual or automated transmission. The 1.2 litre VTVT petrol engine produces power and torque of 83bhp and 114NM respectively, while the same figures for the CRDi diesel engine are 71bhp and 161NM.
At a starting price of Rs 4 lakhs, Hyundai Grand i10 is pretty cheap. The Etios Cross variants fall in the range of Rs 6-7 lakhs approximately. All said it is better to invest a few lakhs more on the car with more features.
