Tips for Landing that Second Date

Second DateDating can be extremely tiring, and it’s often frustrating to go on a date with someone, think the date went well, and then realize that they’re not going to call you back.

Many people often wonder if there are things they can do to have a better first date experience that results in the second date. And the answer is yes. There are plenty of things you can do to boost your chances of earning a second date, and they’re all spelled out below.

1. Have a stronger screening process.

One of the reasons you may not be earning the second date is because you’re not screening the people you’re going on a first date with. If you and the individual have absolutely nothing in common, the chances of a second date are slim to none. This is why it’s important to have a strong first date screening process in place. For example, if you are using online dating websites, be sure to have multiple conversations with the person before agreeing to meet in person. This way, you can determine if the both of you are compatible. If you’re being set up, ask the person doing the setup for the other individual’s phone number first. Have a few phone conversations before setting a date to meet. This way, you can have some time getting to know if having an actual first date is a good idea or not.

2. Don’t pretend to be someone you’re not.

It’s hard for us to open up to someone we barely know, and it’s easy for us to put on a front, especially if we think this front will be more appealing. But this is not a good idea. The other person agreed to go on a date with you (or asked you on a date) based on the initial true information they learned about you, and you want them to get to know the real you. If you pretend to be someone you’re not, you may earn a second date, but eventually the real you will come out, and you may end up dissolving the relationship anyway.

3. Have some confidence.

It’s important for you to have some confidence when you go on a date. This confidence is attractive—much more attractive than a pushover or someone who doesn’t seem to care about their appearance. Take your time picking out the right outfit, and do your best to look good. Get a makeover, get your hair done, and fix any cosmetic dentistry issues you may have before the date. When you look good, you feel good, and this can help you land a second date.

4. Don’t have sex on the first date.

Being easy doesn’t land you a second date—period. Most people don’t want to be with someone who is so quick to jump in the sack, so don’t do it. If you think you may be at risk for doing this, do something to help you not have sex on the first date. For example, don’t shave your legs, wear ugly underwear, or give yourself a minimum number of dates to go on before bringing sex to the table. If you have sex on the first date, you’ll ruin your chances of date number two.
