By its definition project management is a discipline that has as main role facilitating the path towards successful completion of a project. By successful completion the goals and objectives must be all fulfilled. In spite of that general definition, project management means more than that if all its aspects are analyzed in particular situations. Planning, organizing, managing and securing each stage of a project should always be done considering the specifics of the company, the goals and objectives of the project and the type of organizational structure adopted. Because of that informal project management tools are now helped by the hand of technology.
Project management was developed long ago contrary to what people think. Many are using a Project Management Tool. People imagine that this concept is a product of the modern world which is always in the search of things that work as scheduled, fast and with the littlest costs possible. However, it was developed many years ago, even if it wasn’t seen as a disciple until recently. Project management in a few words is the discipline or the method trough which each project is approached in stages. First of all, the process is planned and only after that is guided. This means starting, developing and closing the project with the purpose of reaching the goals already established. Since companies usually do not have only one project running at a time, but several simultaneously, the need for software to manage them came to the surface.
Project management software does no deal only with a single project, but it can handle multiple ones. This way all temporal, financial and objective constraints are taken into account. This means that an entire portfolio of projects can be managed simultaneously with the same results that are: saving money, time, effort and taking less risks.
