The new world has ushered in a host of new technology and new professions. One such is that of web designers. Just as a normal designer would put together the pages of a book, so a web designer would create pages for a website. Although very similar, the process is not exactly the same thing. The web designer has to do much more than a normal designer and has to be highly technology savvy.
Some might say that, that is the same thing a normal designer in the publishing world does. This is partly correct. A website can be compared to a book with each page representing a page in a book. But this is where the comparison ends.
When you want to begin your career as a web designer, you have to make plans on what will be included in the sites you create. This means you have to identify a target audience and have a clear picture of what the site will be used for. You can create a static one or an interactive one that will help the owner generate feedback from the customers regarding what they are interested in. You can also have one for selling some products.
Depending on what you are creating, you will be able to create structures and navigation systems which will make it user friendly. This means using digital communication tools, hypertext, HTML and doing some coding. Remember, the pages need to have a uniform look so you have to format carefully.
You would need to decide whether your pages will be dynamic or static. If the site needs to be dynamic you will also use tools such as Flash. Going a step further, if it is an ecommerce site then sophisticated internet technology comes into play.
The whole package has to be hosted on a server that has adequate power and capacity to allow the site to function perfectly. As the designer, you will also assign tags and keywords in order to get the attention of the popular Search engines. This way, your site gets a good ranking and thereby attracts many more visitors.
Remember, a website is not like a TV commercial that pushes its way into your living room. You need to seek it out and to click a link or paste an URL in your browser to get to it. So given the complexity of the work, it is fair to conclude that if you are to join successful web designers, you need to be a mix of a writer, artist and computer nerd working with sophisticated new technological tools.
