Black-hat SEO is discussed very often by people in the SEO industry and also on online SEO forums because there are still many people who use them. The problem with black-hat SEO methods is that they produce results through bending or breaking search engine rules and are unethical too. These SEO methods also don't care about the experience which website users receive as their only intention is to produce good results. They do however produce results and so they are still seen as SEO.

What is black-hat SEO?

The problem with black-hat SEO methods is that they produce results through bending or breaking search engine rules and are unethical too. These SEO methods also don’t care about the experience which website users receive as their only intention is to produce good results. They do however produce results and so they are still seen as SEO.

The main priority for the more commonly used SEO methods is to offer a good experience for the website’s users and then only afterwards come the benefits of SEO. Black-hat SEO however is completely the opposite as its main intention is purely to maximise the SEO result regardless of what sort of experience visitors to the site have. This poor experience users have on black-hat optimised sites usually comes as a result of keywords and links crammed into content or content which makes little or no sense.

Then there is the way which content is presented on web pages too. The preferred SEO method is to publish good content for users which is useful. Black-hat SEO fills pages with content which is completely useless from a user’s perspective and sometimes isn’t even visible to them. There is also the method of listing keywords the same colour as the background so that they aren’t visible to the visitors but they are to search engine spiders.

There was a time though when many black-hat methods were common practice in the SEO industry and this is why there is still a bit of uncertainty surrounding their acceptability. Search engine rules have changed since this period of SEO though and so most of the methods are no longer accepted.

The problem with these methods is that many of them will only produce good results for a short period of time until they are discovered as being unethical or in breach of search engine rules. When this happens, the website they are on is likely to be penalised so that it falls back down the rankings, often to lower than it originally was. Also with regular updates from search engines it is becoming more and more difficult for people to effectively implement these methods.
