Unlimited Bandwidth Hosting – Really?

Well, we all know it just doesn’t exist right? Apparently not, according to the thousands of hosting companies promoting offers that they can’t provide. Here’s what I mean.

Unlimited bandwidth hosting for shared hosting plans is bait to get you to sign a contract. If you have hundreds to spend per month on a dedicated server, then it’s less of a myth, but even then you’ll have limits. The company is banking on you becoming a customer first, then upgrading later. Who can blame them? Hosting is big business and the industry is extremely competitive. If they told you the “unlimited” truth you’d buy from a competitor. Obviously some companies are better than others, here’s what to look for.

So how do you find a reputable hosting company? That’s a great question, and the answer is in customer support. The industries norm is 99% uptime, but what set’s hosting companies apart is their hardware and customer support. If your site is down, due to hosting, you’ll want to know REAL quick. One way to avoid that scenario is to choose a reputable company that’s been around for a while. You want customer support 24/7 365 because I can guarantee a problem will arise when you least expect it. You don’t want some fly by night company that’s here today gone tomorrow. Unfortunately some hosting companies literally disappear overnight. Look for a company that’s been in business for at least 2 years.

I’ll Just Pick The Biggest Company… But…

Here’s a problem with one of the biggest fastest growing companies in the industry.. customer support. If a company is growing too fast the customer support is going to suffer. When a company sees explosive growth, like the hosting industry is seeing now, the hardest part is taking care of all the new customers. Just because a company is popular, it might not be the best choice. The best deal for what you pay is going to come from a steady growth company that’s been around for a while. All the latest hardware and software wont help you if no one is there to operate it or help with issues.
