When playing on a Team Fortress 2 server, there are 9 different classes based on different skills and abilities. These 9 classes are broken down into three subclass categories. These categories are based around support, offense, and defense. While one does not have to play within these parameters, playing within the classes is a way to ensure that you have the right skills and abilities for the team oriented missions.

In the support category are the characters the Medic, the Spy, and the Sniper, which have specialized skills and capabilities. The purpose of these characters, the name implies is to provide support, indirectly, to aid with the successful completion of missions. The Medics job is pretty straightforward, keep teammates alive and healthy. The Spy can be indistinguishable from other players by cloaking himself, and providing reinforcements from afar is the Sniper.

Making up the offensive category is the Soldier, the Scout, and the Pyro. The Scout is the weakest of the bunch, but he makes up for this weakness in speed and agility. Not nearly fast, but far more durable and tough than the Scout is the Soldier. And finally, the Pyro is one tough baddie. Protected by a fire retardant suit, he launches a number of different fire themed offensives on his enemies. The front line of any mission are the classes contained within this category.

The defense category is the final one in Team Fortress 2. There are three classes contained within this subcategory including the Heavy, the Demonman, and the Engineer. These are the classes that are charged with all matters defensive and will be what you need to use in the event of an attack. The Heavy is tough, but slow.Of all the classes on the game, the Heavy can sustain the most damage. And his health is easily replenished by eating. Armed with two different styles of grenade and rocket launchers is the Demonman. His mission or purpose is to combat attacks indirectly. And finally, the Engineer provides on the spot defenses for his teammates.

The class you choose to play with will be dependent on your interests and specialties, but also the side of the battle you find yourself on. All with their fair share of strengths and weaknesses, each of the nine classes is divided into three different subcategories. It is often vital that you take into account what type of battle or game mode you are playing, as well as what classes your teammates are choosing, when it comes to selecting your own. Get ready for a fun gaming experience, but keep all these things in mind.
