The Best Inexpensive Gaming Notebook

Although a gaming notebook computer is certainly more portable than a desktop, many are still too big to offer real portability. The reason for this is that they have to incorporate high quality features that usually need a chassis which increase the weight of the machine and result in many owners leaving them at home.

Alienware has created a new 11.6″ hybrid compact gaming notebook. This is a true high performance machine that is also relatively inexpensive. The Alienware M11X is a super portable gaming notebook that uses a low voltage Core 2 Duo CPU with an NVIDA graphics card which can be switched on and off to save power. This machine has a base price of only $799 as I read on That Gaming Critic. These features make it the best replacement for a gaming console, gaming laptop, and notebook, considering that has a HDMI and VGA display ports which permit output to a larger display and it only weighs 4.4 lbs.

This computer is available with a 1.3 Gigahertz Core 2 super low voltage CPU which can be over clocked to 1.73 Gigahertz by means of the BIOs, the option to turn if off in order to conserve power when its full capabilities aren’t required, and the GeForce GT 335m 1 Gigabyte graphics card. However, the system has a button that needs to be used to switch modes manually and it won’t switch modes automatically. This makes it very for the user to forget which will sacrifice the life of the battery.

Although these are pretty good specifications for the computer, it is also available with the latest Core i7 or i5 CPUs. The M11X also comes standard with a 5,400 RPM, 160 Gigabyte hard drive. Foe an additional $570 it is available with a 256 Gigabyte hard drive or for an additional $150 it is available with a 7,200 RPM, 500 Gigabyte hard drive.

However, it isn’t available with an optical drive and it doesn’t have a bay to take one, although there seems to be sufficient enough space for the optical drive. The keys are somewhat close, particularly the directional keys therefore gamers will have a difficult time using those for gaming. However, it has a well designed touch pad that is very generous for this size notebook and the back lit keyboard is very responsive.

The Alienware M11X is quite possibly the best inexpensive gaming notebook that is currently available. It has sufficient video connection options to permit game playing on the computer monitor or a large screen television.
