Sherlock Holmes, starring Robert Downy Jr., and Jude Law, is a must see for many reasons. The script is excellent, the writing is superb, the action will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire picture, and the chemistry between the two main characters is something not to be missed. There are several reasons why so many believe this is the most powerful version of Sherlock Holmes ever created.
The movie begins with Holmes and his dependable associate stopping a unspeakable slaughter from taking place. We learn that the slaughterer has been wanted for a while, and thanks to Holmes and Watson, the police finally have him in custody. We also learn that this is to be Watson’s final case with Holmes, as he is betrothed to be married. Of course, we will need to follow through with the killers execution, but not before he calls Holmes to his jail cell to give him a distressing prediction. The killings have only just begun.
After he is hanged, Holmes and Watson split their separate ways. Nevertheless, the next day, the killer’s remains, the man who was apparently hanged the day before, and indeed verified departed by Dr. Watson himself, has somehow cracked out of his tomb, and is at large once again. And just as he predicted, the killings have started again.
Holmes follows the trail to a mysterious cult, that currently being led by the killer’s father. The sect hires Holmes to find the killer, as he has some undisclosed magic learned from the religious group, and they do not think he can be controlled. Holmes accepts the test, but for his own reasons.
The killer returns to the covert sect, and begins killing those that oppose his rise to supremacy. He uses a variety of methods of killing, and leaves more than a few clues for Holmes to follow. Holmes and Watson, who has been dragged back to Holmes’ side presumably in opposition to his will, unearth the diabolical strategy of the new cult, now led by the seemingly back from the dead killer.
Holmes and Watson must race against time to keep the killer from carrying out his final homicidal coup on the British Parliament. His diabolical plans extend far past taking over the strange faction. He wants to take over Britain, and then the world. The concluding mystery is exposed when Holmes faces the killer, and reveals all his info. Many people are seeing this movie twice and even three times to pick up these fascinating clues that are presumably dropped all through this mighty tale. If you haven’t seen it, you should. If you have seen it, then you should see it again.
