9 Things to Keep In Mind When Choosing A Domain Name

In order to launch your online business, the first thing that you will need is your own website. This will be your digital platform to share your product or services and other necessary information with visitors. However, when it comes to attracting people and getting high traffic of customers, you need to make sure that you come up with a good domain name. Keep in mind that your domain name should tie into your business and give a positive reflection of your company.

Here are a few of pointers that you should remember while choosing your domain name:

1. Use your keywords

Ideally, a domain name should contain words or phrases that reflect your business or products. Think about business and come up with some relevant words, then play around with them until you have the perfect domain.

2. It Should Be Unique

It is a total disaster when your visitors mistake your website for a different website owned by some other company. Don’t use domain names that are plural or hyphened form of another company’s domain name.

3. Short and Simple Name

Consider choosing short domain name as this will allow your website to have more characters in its URL. Short and simple domain names are easy to remember and can also fit in printed advertisements and business cards better.

4. Don’t Use Numbers and Hyphens

Domain names with hyphens or numbers often create confusion and cause users to misspell a name when typing in. On the other hand, domain names that don’t contain numbers or hyphen are easier to remember, spell and type in error-free. Moreover, it also helps you share the domain name verbally. Users may lose interest in your website if they find it too tedious to remember the domain name.

5. Choose Appropriate Extensions

Domain names are always accompanied by an extension such as .com, .org, .net, .info or .edu and so forth. Choose the extension which meets your purpose of creating a website.

6. Easy to Type

When choosing your domain name, it is a good idea to stick to common terms, which makes it easier to type.

7. Summarize Your Business

The domain name should give your visitors the idea of what your business is about. In other words, your domain name should summarize what you’re offering to your guests.

8. Make It Catchy

Choose a domain name that is catchy and attractive as it can help others easily find your website anywhere and at any time. People tend to forget complicated domain names, so it is a good idea to use a catchy domain name for your website as it will allow more people to visit your website.

9. Obey Copyright Law:

When choosing a domain name, make sure that a company hasn’t already copyrighted it. Breaking the copyright law is a serious offense that can be costly and can carry jail sentence.
